my story
My journey
I've been a professional in business and project management for many years now, but I'm also a mother of three daughters, a wife, teacher/coach/trainer, photographer, writer, (graphic) designer, web-designer, architect, do-it-yourself (home depot person), ... I have a lot of passion for everything I do and I make sure life stays interesting.
I started my career in commercial functions. Skills I've learned at a very young age and that have been useful throughout my entire career. Working in service departments, you need to keep your internal clients satisfied. It all starts with an in depth and correct analysis of your clients needs. You then proceed with a plan of action to deliver as fast and efficient as possible a minimum viable product or service to keep your client happy and wanting more.
It took a few years before I actually was developing products as an engineer and was able to put the whole of my studies to good use. After growing on the proverbial ladder I was encouraged to step into management rolls and take on project management responsibilities. I became the link between C-level and the different departments.
When the opportunity occurred to shape and grow the project management department following PMI and Prince 2 principles,
I didn't hesitate. Once finished the company got sold and we got to do the whole exercise over again during the merge.
It was then that I experienced the impact of the first real transformational projects in collaboration with IT. The key factor to success being extensive and good communication. I learned from other 'job well done'-projects as well as from our own custom made PPM tool, based on a SharePoint platform.
The collaboration between IT & R&D was a really fun experience, it guided me to more such projects. Such as CRM implementation and a POC for a PPM tool. I have been active in transformation projects while still taking on the role of business partner for R&D. For several years now I've had the opportunity to work in an agile/hybrid project environment and I've become enamored with this fun and efficient way of working.
I've worked in a lot of different sectors, which provides me a broad range of knowledge on general management activities. What interests me is building on and growing that knowledge by working for a company, in a for me new sector or field of expertise. I strongly feel a day was a success when you've achieved a goal or when you've learned something new. Something I try to promote in my home environment as well.
My last learning experiences included honing my leadership skills and introducing business applications for the field.
